It was an exciting moment for employees at nakambala on 26 november 2014 at exactly 10:00hrs when for a full minute a special alarm was sounded to signal the breaking of the then standing 2013/14 record crush of 404 001 tonnes sugar M&E of 2012/2013. Earlier a notice had been sent to all employees to clap for the duration of the sounding of the alarm in recognition of their success, wherever they happened to be at that moment.

ABOVE: We caught some of the ‘Nakambalans’ as they clapped - (LEFT) John Nkonjela and Mark Wortmann, (CENTRE) Bernard Banda, Emmanuel Simbeza and Oliver Mubambe, and (RIGHT) Kelvin Mubita and Edgar Sikute. The season closed in December with a record production of 424 024 tons of sugar - the highest-ever tonnage produced by a single sugar factory on the African continent in any given season.
