ANTHONY GOBLE who supplies cane to Gledhow Sugar Company (GSC) won the National Young Farmer of the Year Award in October 2015. Anthony won the KZN title in September and then went on to win the national title.

The competition is for growers younger than 35 years old. The farmer is judged on his/her management philosophy as well as the technical manner in which the philosophy is applied. The competition is open to all growers irrespective of the commodity that is farmed.

The provincial winners were visited on the farm by the three judges. The judges were Professor van der Westhuizen from Central University of Technology (Free State), Professor Annandale from University of Pretoria and Professor Hoffman from Stellenbosch University.

Anthony and his wife, Tanya, attended the awards ceremony in Johannesburg. The award is sponsored by AgriSA and Toyota and Anthony received a Toyota Hilux for winning the national championship. GSC congratulates Anthony and Tanya for bringing this prestigious award to the cane supply area, which is currently experiencing one of the worst droughts in 100 years of record keeping. A wonderful cheer in challenging times.
