TRAVERS PELLEW, son of Garth (mill accountant Eston) and Lee-Ann Pellew (factory secretary Sezela), represented Triathlon South Africa at the ITU World Duathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, on 1st June 2014 where he was placed 25th in his age category (20-24). This is a wonderful achievement as Travers still has three years in this category.

Travers reports that the event was well organised and the crowd support and atmosphere were superb. Altogether the experience was “amazing” and he made a lot of new friends.

To be selected for the SA team to compete at the World Duathlon Championships, an athlete is required to race at his provincial Duathlon Champs, from where athletes qualify to represent their respective provinces at the African Champs. Travers was awarded KZN colours by finishing first in his age group (men's 20-24) at the KZN Duathlon Champs and sixth at the African Champs, where his performance was good enough for him to be selected to represent Triathlon South Africa.

The 2014 African Duathlon Championships were held at Babas Lodge north of Pretoria. The 2014 race involved racing the Olympic distance of 10km run, 40km cycle and 5km run. Travers has always been a keen sportsman and is well known to all the mountain bikers in the Sezela area, as this is where his passion for cycling started.
